What is Central North Island Model United Nations (CNIMUN)?

CNIMUN 2020 will be the flagship event of the Outreach Programme in 2020. Previously hosted in Palmerston North, this is the only event with a full committee that is not held in Wellington City. The aim of this event, as with every event in the Outreach Programme, is to provide a more accessible event to our delegates outside Wellington City, by removing the barrier of distance. CNIMUN has also previously been targeted towards delegates with little or no event experience, allowing new delegates to try a Model United Nations event without traveling, and hopefully encouraging them to travel to Wellington for events later in the year.

This event committee is ideal for candidates with a passion for accessibility, who truly believe in the ideals that the Outreach Programme is founded upon. No previous organisational experience within UN Youth is required, but organisational experience of some kind is essential. Skills required for each role vary greatly, so please carefully read each role description below.

What will you gain from being on this committee?

The scale of this event is usually slightly smaller than other regional events, so this committee is perfect for people who are looking to begin their volunteering with UN Youth in 2020.

Experienced volunteers are also encouraged to apply, as a range of skill levels would be perfect.

Being involved in a UN Youth committee gives you a deeper understanding of the organisation, and gives you valuable organisational experience. Successful candidates can expect to develop effective interpersonal communication in a professional context; an understanding of world affairs in relation to their chosen topic; skills of teamwork; knowledge of how to complete specific tasks; and how to make decisions relating to the wider context of an event.

Every committee member gains something different from their role, but being involved in organising an event is an inherently satisfying task. Watching an event come to life after all of your hard work over several months is extremely rewarding, and it is a great way to give back to the organisation.
