Overview

We are absolutely thrilled to announce Wellington Universities’ Model United Nations 2018!

Wellington Universities’ Model United Nations (UniMUN) is Wellington region’s premiere event for tertiary students, and we are excited to reveal that this year’s theme will be UN+INHABITABLE.

Tertiary students will gain the opportunity to take on the role of a delegate of a member state of the United Nations, and practice diplomacy and negotiation. Surrounded by fellow peers who have interest in the implications of contemporary social issues that become increasingly pressing, you will be exposed to an educational experience and connect with others in your community.

Following the theme of UN+INHABITABLE, we will be addressing two topics. The first is the Question of a Space Arms Race, which will look at  the potential militarisation and initiation of an arms race in space in committee sessions. The second is the Question of Sustainable Marine Life Beyond National Waters, which will focus on pollution in areas beyond a single state’s ownership, with a primary focus on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, ocean pollution, and over-fishing during plenary. These topics are relevant to all areas of academia, meaning whether you are a student of the Humanities, Sciences, or other areas of study, your knowledge and ideas will significantly contribute to creating a robust and unforgettable debate.

So join us on the 11th of August at the Victoria University of Wellington for a rewarding experience!
