Pacific Leadership Tour is an annual trip for high school students that educates participants on New Zealand’s relationship with the Pacific. It combines a week at the prestigious UN Youth Australia National Conference with an educational development tour to Vanuatu. Twelve high school students from around New Zealand will be chosen to participate.
The announcement of the Pacific Reset, rise of Pacific voices on climate issues and the growing trade and economic relations in the Pacific exemplify the importance of fostering our relationship with our Pacific neighbours. UN Youth is taking part in the Pacific Reset by teaching our youth the importance of remaining connected to the Pacific.
This year, National Conference will be held in Sydney.
In Vanuatu we’ll be visiting the New Zealand High Commission, as well as range of NGOs that contribute to development, trade, innovation and combating climate change in the Pacific. Once again we’ll be staying with Alick at his Homestay accommodation in Port Vila – a UN Youth tradition and one of the best parts of Pacific Project. Delegates will have the opportunity to learn about development trends in Vanuatu, New Zealand’s regional engagement and responsibility in the Pacific, Vanuatu customs and practises, climate change in the Pacific and much more. And finally, it wouldn’t be a trip to the Pacific Islands without a chance to head to the beach and spend some time in the sunshine before we return home to the grey winter of New Zealand. A more detailed itinerary can be found in the itinerary tab.
If successful in this round, applicants will be invited to complete an interview. If you’re ready to discover new countries, cultures and communities, apply for the Pacific Leadership Tour.
