Overview

Get excited for Otago-Southland Model United Nations 2018! This 2-day conference at the University of Otago will see high school students come together to debate, discuss and ultimately learn more about the world we live in.

Model United Nations is a platform for students to learn about and discuss international affairs through the system adopted by the UN. Each delegate will be given a country and represent the country’s views on certain issues. The theme of this year’s conference is UN+CHAINED. Each delegate will be assigned a country and using the tools of negotiation and diplomacy, delegates will represent their country’s views on ideas surrounding freedom. The basic freedoms we’ve been granted such as the freedom of identity, information and expression are currently being breached – which will have wide-ranging consequences for the future in both the global and personal sense. Delegates will be exploring breaches to these basic freedoms, discussing solutions and learning more about the role of the United Nations.

Alongside the committee sessions we have planned engaging workshops and thought-provoking speakers. By maintaining an inclusive and supportive environment, this conference caters to a range of skillsets – so whether you’re a seasoned delegate or new to the world of UN Youth, there’s something for everyone! If you want to learn more about international relations, develop your identity as a global citizen and meet like-minded individuals – make sure you register! CA applications close on Sunday 22nd April at 11:59pm.

Delegate Applications have been extended to Sunday 29th April 11:59pm so don’t miss out!
