Overview

Auckland Model United Nations (AMUN) is back for another year! This is New Zealand’s largest UN Youth event, taking place over two days at the University of Auckland and involving over 400 delegates and tertiary volunteers.

AMUN offers secondary school students the chance to experience life as a diplomat. Over two days of interactive workshops, activities, debates, panels, and guest speakers, UN Youth aims to broaden delegates’ knowledge of international relations and current events. AMUN also works to help delegates understand their own place in the world as a global citizen, strengthen their confidence, public speaking, negotiation skills, and all-around communications skills too.

In 2020, the theme of UN+EMPOWERED will challenge delegates to think about the wider implications of the issues their country faces, and the effect of these on the people of their country. The committees chosen for the conference will focus on a variety of issues that have an impact on the empowerment of their society. Delegates will have the chance to debate topics such as privacy, food security, decolonisation, and globalisation, and strategise solutions for the impact of these on individual and collective empowerment.

Join 400+ like-minded individuals to tackle the world one problem at a time, by expanding your civics knowledge, practicing your public speaking and building friendships! Attend Auckland Model United Nations in 2020 and emerge more equipped to make a difference in the world.
