Auckland Model United Nations is UN Youth Auckland’s flagship event. As a two-day conference at the University of Auckland, Auckland Model United Nations aims to open, engage and challenge young minds with global affairs. This year, we are making Auckland Model UN bigger and better than ever –
making it an event worth not missing!

This is a high school event but we are seeking volunteers to help facilitate committees and workshops. If you are a tertiary student and want to get involved, please see the volunteer tab here.

Delegate registrations close at 11:59pm on February 26, 2018.
Conference Assistants close at 11:59pm March 1, 2018.

Auckland Model United Nations 2018 is focused on the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each committee topic adapts the core principle of one or more Goal.

This is all reflected in our tagline UN+Bound: ‘we are bound for a better future’ but also not bound by our past. This plays into the “UN+Bound” title of the conference, to show that we as a people are not bound by political allegiances. Are our food systems sustainable? Are our communities and healthcare systems equitable? What is the future of the tension between environmental sustainability and economic development? What does the role of space exploration play in global development? How has the tide of global development shifted with the rise of hyper-nationalism? This is all up for debate at Auckland Model United Nations 2018!

Delegates will participate in five committees by taking on the role of a diplomat. Participants will partake in two days of United Nations General Assembly committee sessions, using diplomatic tools of discussion and negotiation to represent their state’s view while considering wider viewpoints and understandings of global development to challenge delegates to come up with solutions to actualise the Sustainable Development Goals.

As with every Auckland Model UN, we have invited an exciting number of speakers to help further engage and challenge delegates’ understandings of global development and the future of the world, including an exciting mystery keynote speaker! Stay tuned for more information!

A record number of equity scholarships will also be available for Auckland Model UN 2018. These equity scholarships will cover the $65 registration fee.

Please register using the form under the ‘Equity Scholarships‘ tab if you would like to be considered for one!
